Which track is better in GKS?
Which track is better? This question doesn’t make sense because if there were a better track, everyone would apply to it. Your success in GKS is not dependent on the track you apply to; it’s dependent on your profile.
First, analyze your profile. Do you have good grades? What is considered a “good” grade, you ask? It depends on your competition. You need to research the profiles of previous winners from your country. At Scholars Academie, we have data for each country. Once you determine how competitive your grades are compared to other students, it’s time to move on to other factors such as your major, your achievements/awards, the quality of your recommendations, etc.
Second, after analyzing your position in the competition pool, you need to make a table comparing yourself to those who win the Embassy and University Tracks. If your profile is better than those students who usually win the Embassy Track in your country, you can be confident that you have a chance in the Embassy Track. Otherwise, the University Track might be better for your profile.
This is how I teach my students to determine the fitting track to their profile. There are many more steps in between, but that is the general idea. Basically, you need to understand how competitive you are compared to other students. Most students overestimate their profiles and think they are competitive when in reality they are not. This is where the choice of track, universities, and majors are taken into consideration to maximize your chances of winning GKS.
