How to write your GKS Essay properly.

When you write your essay, please get straight to the point. No need to premeditate the topic or the point of discussion. You have limited space to write on. If three or more sentences can be shortened into one, do so. The people who will read your essays can read behind the words and they will know if you're just spitting out nonsensical and useless sentences just to fill up the space. In my experience of reviewing hundreds of essays, I can see which one has substance and which one has not. If I can do that, imagine what the GKS committee can see.

For example, this paragraph from my previous student:

"Turning 16 years old was one of the darkest moments of my life. I was about to finish high school and everything seemed to be going very well. Until one day, one of my high school teachers started mocking me because I decided to study Psychology instead of Industrial Engineering just as he wanted. He told me that I would never accomplish my goals and that I was destined to become a failure. Little did I know that from the darkest moments, the courage to pursue your dreams is born."

You can shorten this into two sentences:

"My high school teacher mocked me for deciding to study Psychology saying that this field has no future. At first, I was relieved of my motivation to pursue my goals, but at the darkest moment of my life, my courage to start thinking independently began anew."

Do you see the difference? A lot of unnecessary words and sentences in the unedited one. GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.
